The Ridgeway
Group of Churches are in the Diocese of Hereford in
a beautiful part of the Marches, the area around the
border between Shropshire in England and Powys in Wales.
Offa's Dyke running from north to south crosses an ancient
Ridgeway running from west to east. It is a deeply rural
area. The principal occupation is agriculture,
the second is tourism. Parts of the landscape form an
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
In the
villages, the size of the population has not substantially
increased over the centuries, though the market town
of Bishop's Castle is bigger than it was when it was
one of the last of the 'Rotten Boroughs', returning
two MPs to Westminster.
The five
parishes are looked after by a Priest-in-charge and
a curate, operating with a Local Ministry Team of lay
people which is now in training. Each church holds a
variety of services, which you can find by clicking
on the links on the home page, some of which are lay-led.
